The Internet is like an Elephant

The Internet is huge. I mean, the Internet is probably bigger than Earth, if you really start thinking about it. Heck, the Internet is probably more like the Universe… so amazingly big and unending (well, most of the time) and getting bigger all the time. It’s impossible to see the entire thing. It’s impossible to know where it begins and where it starts. It’s enormous.

At the same time, just like the world we live in… it’s also incredibly small (and if anyone starts singing that Disney song, I’ll cry). No really, hear me out. I was thinking about this earlier. Before the Internet, it was very easy to forget about people. Maybe later, you’ll have a fleeting thought… I wonder what ever happened to What’s-his-face? You’d shrug, and get on with your day. You were probably busy milking cows or whatever it was we did to amuse ourselves before the Internet.

Now? I wonder what ever happened to What’s-his-face? Well, I’ll Google him.  Oh, he’s got his own website now! Hasn’t been updated in a while… so I’ll go search him on MySpace. Oh look… there he is! Man, he’s gotten cute. Really cute. Wonder if he’d still remember me after — oh, five or six years?

Boom! Now you’re history’s right up in your face again, which could be good or bad, depending on the situation. No, nothing prompted this, particularly, besides Meli having fun with MySpace searches the other day. It’s just weird how the Internet doesn’t let you forget… both the good and the bad.

Hey, Mr. Grumpy Gills

Don’t you hate those days when, like, everyone in town is in a bad mood? It was absolutely ridiculous today. I must have gotten my head bitten off by grouchy customers five or six times today, and one of our regulars went so far as to throw lettuce at me.

Oh, it’s good to be home.

Anyhow, yesterday I was seriously productive. Well, for me anyhow. All I really did was work on cleaning my room. For those of you that don’t know me quite as well, I’m usually a pretty organized person. I prefer things clean. However, around the time that Tia had her kittens, I stopped keeping my room up, and it got kind of messy. I went to PA and came back and it was messier. I didn’t have the “oomph” to clean it, so it got messier. Before yesterday, it was atrocious.

And so I spent most of the day yesterday actually cleaning my room. Today I’ll vacuum and put away all of the things that aren’t on the floor (like on my desk and dresser and shelves). Later on, I think I might try and do some things to make my room more interesting. Seriously… my room is really boring.

I took before pictures and I’ll probably take after pictures, but I don’t think I want you all to see my messy room, so I’ll probably refrain from posting them!

Weird Dream

I had this crazy dream last night that all of these people I know/knew started showing up at work. The scary thing is that almost every one of these people are connected to my current or past life by some kind of bad event or bad memory. There were two people I didn’t mind being there at all, but then people came in who were distinctly bad memories/experiences for them as well. It was the weirdest dream ever.

Making Up for Lost Time

Let me see. I’m on my fourth class. I’m taking a train to Texas next weekend for my monumental summer event. I just got back from watching Shrek the Third and it was cute. I keep finding myself in awkward situations. I’m reading three books at once, two of which I’ve read before and the third I started to read years ago. I’m also going through this nostalgic music phase, and am currently listening to my well-worn copy of Jesus Freak. Oh, and I forgot Music Monday… and seeing as how it’s Saturday (early early morning Saturday to be exact), I’ll just wait until Monday. Work’s not been that bad this week. Tomorrow I’m going to freak out on my room and clean it. It really is a mess. I’ve been playing the Sims 2 more than is probably healthy… and staying up way too late just to talk to the friends that don’t sign on until eleven or twelve. My toe hurts. I can’t find any motivation to write. Myspace is more addicting than it should be… because it’s such a frustratingly stupid site. I’m one cat short of halfway to my goal of twenty-two… and we’ve all got reason to believe that Tia’s been at it again.

That, in a long rambling paragraph, is what’s been going on in my life over the past week or so. Happy? Good, I am!

Raise your hand, please!

Well, it’s back to the classroom! College really isn’t coming through right now. It’s really frustrating… and I’m sure I could be doing a million things better. I’m not going to dwell on that right now.

Besides that, none of the colleges around here have a great web design program (most don’t have one at all), and there’s not even any art institutes, like Andrew suggested. Anyhow, the local tech center (Gordon Cooper) has online classes… and quite a few that are on web and graphic design. Hooray! That means no fussing with my work schedule (I really do like working days) and no transportation issues (another story entirely). Classes start tomorrow. I got to bypass all of the way, way easy courses (Shawna, they teach you to use tables and iframes and <FONT> tags… oh my!).

I was a nerd in school. I’m really excited about starting this tomorrow. Six weeks! I’ll be having a blast. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow.

Edit: I “attended” my first class today… and really enjoyed it. It was informative and didn’t assume you were an idiot. I think this will be a fun six weeks!
